OPEN GOVERNMENT — The Redding Record Searchlight reports that a state agency will try to settle a long-festering labor dispute between the City of Redding and the union representing its electric utility customer service workers, centering on the city's refusal to release the report of its investigation into hostile workplace complaints.
Many of these management problems stem from a surfeit of supervisors to employees in customer service, SEIU has said. The union demanded release of the investigative reports after opposing city plans to hire another customer service supervisor.
The city has said the two investigations were conducted in confidence and would not be made public, since the reports revealed no employee misconduct.
